Materials

Cream crochet cotton, size 10, in 350 yd. (320 m) balls - 4; size 8 (1.50 mm) steel crochet hook; 1/4 yd. coordinating fabric for rod pocket; sewing needle and matching thread; and a 5/8" diameter curtain rod

What was your inspiration?

I love working with thread and thought it would be fun to combine a checkerboard pattern with a flower design.

What are you most proud of?

I think this turned out to be a really cute design and would be a great valance for the kitchen or a little gir'ls bedroom.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Follow the stitch definitions carefully. The pattern uses dc2tog and dc3tog stitches to create the flower stem and bobbles for the flower centers. The valance is worked from the top down and material is sewn to the back to create the rod pocket. A graph is also provided for reference.

The finished size is 63-1/2" wide x 15" long (from top of rod). A repeat in the pattern is provided to increase the width in 5-3/4" increments.

This pattern is available for $3.50 and is written in U.S. terms.
