Materials

This was a commission order for a bride who is having her wedding at Tutbury Castle and wanted her wedding jewellery to tie in with the history of the castle. I have made this headband with a thick core wire, which I have shaped and hammered to form the band. The main wire has then been covered with a 6 loop Viking knit weave chain, made with very fine 28 gauge wire, making the headband glisten in the light. I have finished the band with two handmade wire cones and 4mm sterling silver beads, which I have flattened slightly so that they sit neatly against the head. I have hammered the ends of the band, to strengthen, hold everything in place and to add extra comfort to the wearer. The ends of the band have been filed and sanded to a smooth curve. I inside measurement of the band is 15" and the woven section of the band is 1/8" wide.
