Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Quilting Big Projects on a Small Machine »

Instructions

I used the split batting method to quilt this project.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Girls

Style: Mod, Casual, Funky, Rock / Punk

Materials

Cotton fabric, thread and batting.

What was your inspiration?

Our daughter picked the fabrics out year ago while working at a fabric store. She is an art teacher and picking out fabrics is her favorite part of quilting. At the time, I didn't know she was so interested in quilting and I hadn't quite gotten the bug yet. Her daughter just loves to dance and at the age of 3, wants to be a ballerina. When Jaybird quilts came out with the Ballerina pattern, I remember this group of fabrics our daughter had given me a decided it was perfect for Brianna's big girl quilt.

What are you most proud of?

This is only the second quilt that I have been happy with my free motion quilting. I ventured to try feathers and even though they aren't perfect, they are for this quilt.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

These blocks are quite large. If you want a smaller block, figure out the differences in the pieces before you begin.

Amazing project! I love the look of the lightest fabrics. At main picture they look as the places are empty, More detailed pic show them like stars. In fact they make the same pinwheels. I will remember this quilt.

Thank you. I've been doing meandering stitching and a little free motion design but your class helped me get beyond that point. I'm pleased with how it turned out.
