I'm not an expert on knitting, but have made a few sweaters. I'm hoping that someone could help me with this pattern. First, what are the place markers, blocking mat, wires and pins used for ? When I came to row 5, I ended up with 16 sts. instead of 15, and for the ssk, I slipped 2 sts. onto the right hand needle and yo and then knit 2 sts. Could someone advised me what I did wrong ?

stitch markers help you identify a spot in your knitting where you either begin a chart sequence or increases, etc. BLocking mat, wires and pins are used once the item is complete, you lay the mat somewhere flat, arrange your item (either damp or steamed) and use the wires and pins to shape the item as it dries

the ssk is a type of decrease... it means to slip 2 to rh needle, and knit them TOGETHER, and it gives the decreased stitch a twisted appearance. That may be the problem...
