Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sew Retro: Perfect Fit Bombshell Dress »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Retro / Vintage

Materials

Cotton print, cotton muslin, satiny lining

What was your inspiration?

I love vintage and retro looks... Very flattering for almost everyone. The class was fantastic! Gertie is an excellent teacher and I would recommend this course highly. I learned things about fitting that are really helping me on other projects.

What are you most proud of?

I am in love with the way I got it to fit properly. It is really my size! I also like the button-in detachable strap.
More on that here: http://thesewinglab.blogspot.com/2012/04/bombshell-dress-part-2.html

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't skimp on the muslin-making step. It is a lot of work, but essential to get the dress to fit and get the right look. Here is my muslin: http://thesewinglab.blogspot.com/2012/02/bombshell-dress-part-1.html

Yay it looks gorgeous! I am doing black and white polka dots too with the Linda skirt. I only hope it comes out looking as great as yours!

Thanks! Can't wait to see yours! After I made it and wore it the first time, it dawned on me that Minnie Mouse wears a polka dot dress... but hers is black and red in most drawings I saw. Whew! I wasn't going for "costume".

Really pretty! Good idea to start with a cotton fabric (vs. like me - silk! ;) ) And I agree with you, the muslin making step is a must, and I'm so happy I did it! Otherwise I don't think I would ever wear it. Good job! :)

Silk would have been harder! I looked on your blog and saw in-the-process pictures. I don't speak Swedish, but I recognized the bombshell pattern pieces. I'd love to see your finished dress!
