This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Free Motion Quilting a Sampler »

Instructions

Why not start small before the big quilt. So I redid one of the BOM blocks with Christmas fabric.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Holiday

Materials

cotton fabrics, cotton threads

What was your inspiration?

I have completed my quilt top and have enjoyed learning how to FMQ too. Since Christmas is near I wanted to try some small pieces before I tackled the king size quilt.

What are you most proud of?

I like the colors and how well it will look on my sisters table.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It helps me to draw out the design on paper beforehand and get a feel for whether the design will work nicely in an area. If my hand feels like I need more room to move on the paper I certainly will need more room to move with my machine and needle.

I loved doing the feather shell design, it was easy and looks great. But when it came to the bubble design, I dont know what I did or did not do, but the carpol tunnel flaired up that I have not felt in five years, it was real bad. I love the design though. Love your block.

Thanks, I do like the quilting around the center a lot. I'm not so sure that I'd do those circles there.

I am wondering how in the world the points ever match after I trim it according to Amy's dirctions for this block. I'm disappointed that some of my corners do not meet. ( I am getting fussy now. )

What do you mean the corners do not meet up?

are you talking about the binding? If you are, it will come with practice. It all will come with practice. But you did do a great job on the micro fmq. That is a hard thing to do for most people.

I had the same problem. But until you mentioned it, I never noticed it on your block. When you trim the quarter square triangle units, you have to be sure the point where the four tips of the triangles meet is in the very center of the square and that the outside corners of the square line up with the diagonal seem lines.
