What materials did you use? Odds and sods of fabric... had nothing to start with so like Topsy, it just growed ;-)

What are you most proud of? I got this far... from not even liking my sewing machine and never quilted... to this???

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Have a ball and don't just look at everyones projects, leave comments... half the fun is in sharing!

Thank you!

Our color choices are similar - I used blues and teals and turquoise (no purples but yours looks fantastic!). I bought material yesterday in a blue/teal/turquoise small mosaic pattern and I just love the way it pulls all my fabrics together. I put my white background fabric next to it as sashes but did not like the way my blocks seemed to disappear. The little mosaic pattern seems to make the blocks 'pop'. Good luck with your fabric choice! You will know it when you see it. Great job!

Oh they are too... we both have good taste eh ;-) Your mosaic fabric sounds just like what I'm on the look out for, but with purple. I've seen some batiks online but a bit scared of buying without seeing them in the flesh. I felt the same about using my background fabric for the sashing, just left it washed out. Thanks for your lovely comments... off now to have another nosey at yours :-)

What about a black batik? Hi contrast but in areas of layout it looks like black showing through

Thanks Tomi but I don't do black... altho if I can find a dk blue or dk purple batik with a little bit of black in it, then it might happen on the 2nd BOM quilt since I've split my blocks in to 2 quilts.

This is absolutely great. Even better when you said that you are a newbie. You do great work. Why not try either black as tomib suggests or a dark blue.

Thanks Ladymax... I can't believe I've made all of these... ME??? Have had a change of plans, decided this as one quilt was going to be too big so have opted for 2... made a start on the 1st one last night with plain dk purple sashing. Will see how it looks, you never know the 2nd one might just end up with dk blue sashing. Don't mind a little black but must admit it's really not one of my colours.

Meant to also say, having seen your #2 quilt with the light background also in the sashing... would have love to do one like this but sadly I don't have enough of mine to do it and can't get any more of it. Sure was tempting tho! Thanks for the inspiration!

You are very welcome. There are many ways that these blocks can be put together, so do not be limited to what others do. Use the inspirations and move beyond with the fabric you have on hand. Good luck Make sure you post your photos so we can all see the end result.
