Materials

White primer, grey and green latex paint, Antique Gold craft paint, satin Verathane, and decorative knob from Home Depot.

What was your inspiration?

This small desk came from a boarding house and I purchased it for next to nothing. The dark walnut finish was in bad condition and had water rings, cigarette burns, and lots of knicks. I wanted a small desk that I could also use as a night stand and it was the perfect size. I liked that it had imperfections because I wanted to give it a distressed shabby chic appearance.

What are you most proud of?

How well it looks in the space. I was so excited when I found the perfect drawer knob at Home Depot.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The key is not to be fussy - let your creative juices flow. Less is more! The goal is to give it a distressed over time look - like several layers of old paint is showing through.
