Black stitch bag

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Funky, Cute

Materials

A scrap of fabric from my sister's huge collection. I used wool, ribbon and thread to create the stitched designs. The purse uses a magnetic snap as closure. I thought the stitching was busy enough that a clasp or other hardware would be distracting. There are also zippers with a decorative slide, metals rivets and rings. The interior lining is a poly/cotton print.

What was your inspiration?

I love the idea of stitching texture. This (annoying) bit of fabric seemed like a great background for stitching with the wools and ribbon I got from my sister huge collection of fabric and notions.

What are you most proud of?

I'm not a quilter and this is a new concept for me. I'm also not attuned to abstract work, but I find that exploring the media is inspirational.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Choose a fabric that inspires you.

Thanks, Shoestring, I had a lot of fun doing the stitcing. Those are actually jean buttons I get from a local wholesaler here in Calgary. They also have a website (Paccana.com). This place is terrific for notions and other accessories.

What a great bag and the surface design is free flowing. Congratulations! I like your color choice for accents. Love the hardware. Will you share your source for metal rivets? Fantastic!
