What was your inspiration?

This was a birthday cake request for a wonderful woman (named Ruth) who was a very happy and dedicated participant in her church. So when asked to come up with something I said well, let's see...what's her favorite color(s)...pale blue was the answer...So I asked what she liked to do, or if she had any interests/hobbies - I was told with no hesitation - God! She loves her church, attending all the bible studies and even when she's at home, she may take a moment out of her busy afternoon to just sit down and read a little of her bible. So, with this in mind I thought what better to do than a simple peaceful prayer table. It just so happens that I actually made an almost..identical image of her side table at home - ha - sometimes I'm right on the mark!

What are you most proud of?

I have to say the entire cake came out exactly the way I had envisioned it in my head, down to the little candle; although, if I had taken a better look before delivering it...I would have rubbed cocoa on the wick to go along with showing that it melted. I do always like doing cake "books" to, the icing of the pages make them look real and I always get a kick out of that ha ha..oh the critiques the artist finds!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Sometimes..a few little things are really all the subject matter needs. There are cakes out there that don't need a ton of neat things on them to really get the point of your design across. Take a step back and look at your project, walk into another room if you have to - the designing blinders will come off at some point and tell you when to stop adding to the cake....listen to them when this happens because you can save time, money, & headaches if you finally know when to stop.
