What was your inspiration?
I actually had red yarn to try to design a hat for Valentine's Day but was coming up blank! Then I thought why not design a red dog earflap hat. I created a few other earflap hats (pig, lamb), so I just had to figure out the ears and other fine detailed areas.
What are you most proud of?
I love how warm this hat is and how it looks on the toddler! UPDATE: This hat, with a few extra rows, fits up to 4 years of age! The pattern is the same, but a few words have been added and the pattern revised to include instructions for up to 4 years of age. The models pictured are 21 months and 4 years of age.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
I've included instructions for the Turkish Cast-On and the Kitchener Stitch. Excellent videos are also available online for learning these two techniques. The hat uses the basic stockinette stitch and is knit in the round (except for the earflaps and ears).
