Big Hexie Scrap Quilt

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Funky, Retro / Vintage

Materials

Cotton patchwork quilt blocks

What was your inspiration?

I not only have scraps of fabrics but over the years have accumulated scrap patchwork. I'd do one block because I thought I'd like the pattern and then decide not to continue to a larger project. But I NEVER throw any work away. Lately have been working with oversize hexagon shapes and enjoy the creativity.

What are you most proud of?

I cut up 28 old patchwork blocks and they died a noble death. Also loved working with the shot cotton for the diamonds and borders.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Time is not the object. Root around and see what you've been saving and can upcycle into this, or another, quilt.

Haven't figured that out as yet but NO STIPPLING. I think something geometric, in big stitch, maybe lemon yellow or white thread.

So how would you quilt this? Would you use an all-over (like a stipple) or would you try to highlight portions of each block with an all-over in the purple diamonds and borders?

Love your latest project posting. Is there a hexi-tool, you used or did you just make your own template?

Thanks for asking! I use my own Big Hexie templates that I have specially-cut. There's six in the set and they retail for $29.95. Am just getting ready to go online to sell them. Email me privately at pepcory@gmail.com and I'll make sure you get a notice.
