Instructions

This is a redo of one of my first sewing projects. It recently wore out after being worn almost every weekend for 9 years. I cut the pattern out of a bias tube I sewed following instructions from Threads magazine (volume 107, June/July 2003 "A New Twist on Bias Layouts" by Samina Mizra.)

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual, Cute

Materials

Quilting cotton

What was your inspiration?

A friend asked me to teach a 90 minute demonstration class for beginning sewers at a skillshare she's organizing. A made this skirt in preparation for the class.

What are you most proud of?

As I sewed it, I realized that I've learned a lot since I made this pattern the first time.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It's pretty simple. Have a good time with it!

Good fit ans good color choice for your coloring. Like Cheryl, I also teach at a college and I think when we model things we've made, we show our students that this is actually possible. Hopefully they'll be inspired to try it themselves. As for time to sew, it is tough to find the time but I look at is as a stress reliever.

Thank you. I love sewing and I agree with you completely about the stress relief. I've been doing a lot of simple projects this year because I don't seem to have the brain cells to attack some harder projects on my plate. An easy project can be very satisfying when there's a lot going on!

Love the way this is cut. I teach at a university and have had some girls ask me to teach them to sew. This would be a great first project!

It really is! I had a lot of fun teaching this Cheryl. Also, I'm very impressed that you teach at the university level and sew as much as you do!
