What was your inspiration?
Mostly color played the largest role in the inspiration here. When I began this piece, I did a few color sketches with the cabochons in front of me. The comb didn't turn out exactly like the sketches by any means, but I did keep the main shape from the original idea (the waves at the top). Once I cut out the felt into the shape, I glued on the cabochons and began sewing on the seed beads. This is where I deviated from my original sketch. The colors are the same, but instead of swirls I wound up using lines of beads. The design grew upon itself.
What are you most proud of?
The way I made the fringe beaded edges evenly.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
let it grow naturally! also, it may help to make the beaded "outlines" first and then fill in the rest of the colors in between.
