Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: I made this cake using several of the techniques that I learned from this class. I used the upside down crumb coat method and the wax paper transfer method. These worked great, but my technique for both could use some practice. I wanted my decorations to be somewhat 3D on the sides, so I did not adhere them completely flat. But the transfer method made it so much easier since I was working with fondant. I also used Jessica's recipe for the fondant. It was great! Both taste and texture!

What are you most proud of? The toppers, the clean edges and level tops.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Be patient and take your time. The cake is not perfect but keep trying and do you very best.

Nice cake - lots of detail, but not overdone!! Did you use a mold to create the shells? Are they made out of fondant or modeling chocolate?

I cut the seashells by hand out of fondant and detailed them with lines and dots. I cut the starfish out of my small star cutter and smoothed out the arms and edges a little. All of the decorations are fondant. Haven't had time to try modeling chocolate yet! They ended up looking pretty good, I thought! My 7 year old said my long ones looked like croissants...not shells!
