Autumn Leaves Neckwarmer

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Clothing

For: Unisex

Style: Funky, Whimsical, Casual

Materials

1 skein each: Plymouth Yarns Suri Merino: tan, burgundy and multi (55% Suri alpaca and 45% extra fine Merino); knitting needles U.S. #8; buttons, tapestry needle.

What was your inspiration?

I'm a little crazy on the brioche stitch, so I decided to make this neckwarmer, which started out as a scarf. However, brioche uses alot of yarn! So the stash yarn was all I had and I decided to turn it into a neckwarmer for my mom. As you can see, it's just a simple rectangle, and even a simple stockinette stitch or a rib stitch would make a very cool neckwarmer. Just add a twisted cord loop and a big funky button and you've got it!

What are you most proud of?

Even though I didn't exactly know how I was going to finish it off. I like the way it looks and can be worn either with the cowl up or down.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This is a canvas where anything goes. I think a rectangle in a simple yarn finished off with some oversized buttons would look great!

How can I get the pattern for this project? I love the looks of it.

Hi Terry, I don't have a pattern, really. I just did the 3-color brioche knitting from Nancy Marchant's book, Brioche Knitting (or is it Knitting Brioche). I knit a rectangle until I ran out of yarn and attached the buttons so it draped the way I wanted it to. Good luck, and drop me a comment if you need more guidance.

As a general guide, how big is the finished rectangle? This is very nice and would suit my mom well. I'm hoping to make one. Thank you
