What was your inspiration?

I loved this class. Susan does a brilliant job breaking down the couture techniques into manageable steps. But when you look back and realise that you've made a beautifully fitted dress with all the trimmings. Underlining in silk organza was a revelation to me and I'll be doing that a lot from now on.

What are you most proud of?

I had a jacket that needed a plain black dress. This dress can go from work to evening functions with the switch of a jacket and fitted the bill perfectly. As an added bonus, the dress won second prize in the LBD category of the 2012 Royal Adelaide Show.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Making a couture dress is mainly logical, but you do need to allow yourself plenty of time.

Fantastic job. Looks great on you and so easy to change the look from day to evening. Well deserving of its prize!

It's a versatile pattern, and simple yet classy in black.

Hi Yuka. I think it is possible for a relatively new sewer. But I would strongly suggest that you make a fairly simple garment with a small number of pieces. If you are not confident sewing a dress, you can use many of the same techniques to sew a beautiful simple skirt. Good luck! Austragirl

I never thought of making a plain black one but you're right, it can be dressed up AND down. Well done and congrats on the prize. Carola (all the way from Perth!)
