What materials did you use? Colorful cotton prints, 100% cotton rope 1/4 in. diameter (packaged in 100 ft. rolls).

What are you most proud of? INSPIRATION FABRICS: I saw a yellow and orange striped printed cotton fabric. It reminded me of horizontal striped fabric for doll hosiery, you know what I mean? Haven't you seen homemade folk art dolls with striped legs? THEN, I saw a beautiful grass green batik fabric with little dots of rainbow colors--it looked like spring asparagus with water droplets on it--ready to pick. I thought of some yellow and orange polymer clay buttons I made for a summer blouse. I had leftover buttons from that project and knew they'd put some sparkle on this basket. So there you have it. Well, almost . . . I'm not finished making the basket yet, and I pinned a button on--just to audition it. I think I like it!

What advice would you give someone starting this project? I don't think you can go wrong selecting color combinations for these baskets. And certainly slicing fabric into 1" strips and wrapping it around and around the clothesline rope entirely changes the look of the patterns in a fabric. TIP: Making these baskets is a great way to use up old Christmas fabrics, or out of date patterned fabric that you can't figure out what you were thinking when you bought it, eh?

I love these baskets and cant wait to have a go myself. Your words describe things so well, I'm sure I can do it too. Love the button, looks like candy!

I am going to try one of these one day soon. The baskets are absolutely perfect for storing all of those little things that are scattered all over my sewing room. You are such an inspiration!

I really want to try these baskets - your instructions seem very clear. Like 2strings, i have lots of little things in my sewing room that need baskets to contain them. Thanks for the inspiration!

Shoestring, do you have any tips how to get the thread tension right? My first attempt looks cute, but the tension is all over the place.

Hi Sizzle. Are you getting bird nests on the bottom? (bobbin). I had those sometimes. I haven't adjusted tension on my machine since adjusting (making a bit tighter--higher number) for free motion quilting I was doing to get rid of bird nests. I just left the tension set there for the rest of my sewing projects. Before you make drastic changes to the tension, my first suggestion is try a new 16/100 jeans/denim machine needle, and adjust the stitch width to widest, and add a bit of length to the stitch. Please let me know if any of those things help. You cqn write to me at mrs.durrant1@ I have a gmail account.
