Simple cot quilt »

Instructions

I used scraps of the leaf-patterned fabric to applique onto the plain squares (use fusible webbing), and machine-quilted the stems.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Children

Style: Whimsical

Materials

Quilt-weight cotton fabric, cotton wadding, fusible webbing.

What was your inspiration?

This was for a friend of my daughter. Anna's from New Zealand and her husband is Iranian. Her favourite colour is pink, so I definitely wanted to incorporate that, as well as a fusion of Maori and middle-eastern feeling. The tile-patterned fabric reminded me of mosques, the pink leaf pattern of enclosed gardens, and the bold zigzag felt tribal. The backing is the plain green from the front.

What are you most proud of?

I think the combination of bold patterns and the right tone of pink made this work for a baby boy.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun with the fabrics!

The colors are wonderful, very fresh and outdoorsy, but the art is in those gorgeous flowers. Thanks for sharing!

I love the pinks and greens-my favorites but the flowers are the best touch. I had to look close to see they weren't part of the fabric. Beautiful!
