What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Keep trying . Give yourself time. Buy some good but inexpensive wool top (I got 2 pounds for 22$). Think of it as an artist's paper and you can just throw it away when you are done if you do not like it. I still have a lot of my wool top left so lots of "paper to play with"
