Instructions

You could make this quilt smaller by making the main squares smaller, I cut them 10 inches because the animals I fussy cut were quite large.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Children

Materials

I used 100% cotton quilting fabric. 4 X 30cm strips of different bright coloured fabric for the background. I fussy cut the fabric with the animals for the applique. 50cm of fabric for 1st boarder, 1mitre animal print for 2nd boarder and applique, 50cm for binding. 10Cm is ample for the peep border, 50cm black for sashing, backing fabric and wadding to fit. Background squares are cut 10" square, 1st boarder is cut 3inches Peep boarder is 1.5 inches, 2nd boarder is 5 inches

What was your inspiration?

I was asked to make a baby quilt with African animals in bright fabrics,

What are you most proud of?

I didn't use a pattern and came up with the idea myself and she loved it.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I used children's curtain fabric for the applique.
