It is called broostick because you use a rod the size of a broostick handle and the appropriate size crochet hook for the yarn to create this pattern. Saw the category in my local Fair book but didn't see the blanket for several years. Figured that if someone didn't make it then they would take it out. So I serched it on the internet, made it and won. It is my lap blanket at work when the seasons change. You need a little space to do this pattern. It only takes a couple rows to start seeing results.

Okay, so glad that I now know the appropriate name for this stitch. I've crocheted my whole life, but just found this stitch and it reminded me of my peacock. I didn't know the right name. But buy any name, it is still one of the coolest stitches I know!

it's nice seeing an item made using the broom stick stitch , I still have patterns for it but as of now have not tried to make any thing
