What was your inspiration?

I love the french braid, and have seen how people have a lot of problems picking out frabrics to do one. I studied the Layer Cakes over the last couple of years, and thought what a great way to do a french braid.

What are you most proud of?

How wonderfully the pattern worked out as far as the colors blending.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The more modern layer cakes seem to be too busy. The more traditional fabrics work much better. The Layer Cake needs to have three basic color pallets and a good combination of light, medium, and dark colors in each color way to complete the quilt as shown.

Someone left a comment of Pinterest that this is not an original design and I was violating copyright laws. I assure you it is my original design. I have all the hand written notes I made as I made this pattern to prove it. If there is another pattern out there, I was unaware of it. As we all learn in quilting, there are always many ways to put together the same block in a quilt. Yes, this is a french braid, but it is done using a layer cake. There are many books on french braids, but I have never seen a pattern using a layer cake. Thanks to all of you who believe in me and my patterns. Sharon

Thank You. I have to give credit to Moda. Their layer cakes already have all the colors picked for you!
