4th of July Summer Holiday Dress

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Retro / Vintage, Casual

Materials

Thrift store tank top and cotton fabric from stash.

What was your inspiration?

I wanted a picnic dress that celebrates all that summer is; eating outside, gardens, fireworks and sunshine.

What are you most proud of?

Using a thrift store top and fabric from my stash to make something I will wear. It feels good.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It is super easy. I didn't use a pattern. Just cut off the bottom of the tank top and allow for enough fabric to gather around waist. I sewed elastic to the fabric by stretching it as I sewed to create a gathered edge. Then attach that waist (right sides together) to the bottom of the tank. It helps to have a wide belt to hid the seam. Finally, hem the bottom and you have a new dress!
