Materials

I used plain white paper. You can also use some nice colourful papers.

What was your inspiration?

My inspiration was the material. Everyone has some paper.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

You should not use very thin paper (like newpaper).

I use 5/8" or 1/2" wide double sided ribbon, like you find at Christmas in a big flat spool. Once you get comfortable, 1/4" ribbon or paper works, too, but is very tiny to work with. These are traditional in Denmark, and my Danish friend brought back paper strips from her last trip.

Where do you get your strips of paper? My family made these over 40 yrs ago at every Thanksgiving. I have some strips of paper but haven't found a source for obtaining more.

I just cut the strips from a larger peace (A4 or Letter size).

Quilling paper is good for this. Martha Stewart used to sell a kit for them.
