Valentine Craft Contest 2014

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I am thrilled about the possibility to change the look and feel of the cushion at any time by simply changing the shawl that is wrapped around the base of the cushion. The shawl is closed with buttons on the back and it can be easily taken off. What advice would you give someone starting this project? I would most definitely recommend to line your work if you use light-weight fabric as I did in this project. It makes a huge difference. Another good idea is to sew your cushion inlets yourself. As guidance my finished cover measures 16"x24" and I sew the inlets 18"x26" big. I overstuffed them to give them a little bit more volume.

What you will need

  • I have found some wonderful cotton-silk fabrics in the most wonderful vibrant colours in the local markets here in Yangon (Rangoon). The shawl that is wrapped around the base of the cushion is lined with flannel. I used mother of pearl buttons for the closure.

Q&A with abanabana

K Lee 2Strings asked:
You're back! I've missed you and your amazing originality. This is wonderful! I love the ruched shawls! How terribly clever! So lovely.
abanabana answered:
Hello my dear 2strings! I am back! I am back and I can't tell you how good it feels after unpacking 248 boxes and settling everyone into a routine again. Just to make my arrival even better this very cushion cover was honoured as a runner up in Craftsy's Valentines Contest (see blog)! I can't imagine having a better start to my new sewing season! It's lovely to hear from you.
