What are you most proud of? Not only is the jacket finished but I have also worn it! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Start with 7 or 8 coordinating fabrics along with a 2-3 yd piece that will be used for the base. The base is really the jacket lining so choose something that matches your other fabrics. I worked almost backwards - I used different techniques (like making a frame for the embroidered fish) first and then decided where to put it. Some of the techniques used were: "clouds" (half circles laid out in a fish scale design); fusible applique (fish on the back), twisted tucks, couching, 3D flowers (made with an embroidery machine), folded origami flowers, prairie points (detail in sleeve), and using decorative stitches on my sewing machine. This is a project that evolves over time - I had sections pinned over jacket pieces on my design wall to help me with placement.
