Project

Tank Top From AC Sewing + Design Book

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Merged sizes! I cut the bust out to size M, but the shoulder straps and waist down to a size S. My measurements are bust 33", waist 26"hip putting me between sizes. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Just go for it on scrap material. Don't worry about embellishments just yet. Get the fit right first, then go nuts with pizzaz.

What you will need

  • Reused 2 old 50/50 cotton/polyester tshirts acquired at a clothing swap

Q&A with Schmorb

rowoman asked:
amazingly my library has this book and the patterns are intact! I thought of making the top, but the sizing was too small...I will go back and get it and try my hand. I just love the look of this top. Cant wait to see it finished.
Schmorb answered:
Thanks for the support everyone! I can't wait to see it finished either - Another "junk"/"practice" project gone right! lol. I followed Tilly's instructions on how to merge pattern sizes here: http://www.tillyandthebuttons.com/2013/02/how-to-select-your-sewing-pattern-size.html Really great article, and useful blog!
DrFun asked:
It fits perfectly! Mine gaped at the bust when I sewed the binding on, but yours looks great.
Schmorb answered:
I hear you DrFun! The green bolero (also posted under this class) is gaping a bit along my back-bottom seam. I think on my bolero the pucker developed because I stretched the fabric a bit with my fingers as I worked because I was trying so hard to make perfect stitches on the edging. I was a lot more careful on this garment to keep my tension a little looser and it seems to have helped. I suppose it might be the cut as well. Thanks for the comment! :)
rowoman asked:
Love it! Skirt next???
Schmorb answered:
Yes! Oddly enough. I cut the cotton last night, but still working on stencil so it may be awhile before photos. Gotta have at least one of everything, right? ;)
