Smoking Jacket

What advice would you give someone starting this project? I learned the hard way that mixing a knit fabric and woven fabric isn't the best idea! I used the walking foot to sew together all the pieces. The velour kept slipping when sewn to the brocade, so I hand-basted the main piece to the lining before sewing it.

You Can Make This

Azalea820 made Smoking Jacket with:

  • Black velour and black/gold brocade in a peacock feather pattern. Pattern is Butterick B5830 modified to a shorter length.

Q&A with Azalea820

Davesmom asked:
Love your jacket!! It looks comfortable, the contrast is awesome. Do you smoke?
Azalea820 answered:
Haha, no I don't. This is actually for my husband, I just used my dress form to model it for me. My husband is much larger than my dress form, so that is why it looks humongous. He occasionally smokes cigars, but he really wants a smoking jacket as something to wear when he is relaxing after work.
