Silver Denim Jacket

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Top stitching and button holes. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Go for it. Be sure to make notes. I sat my iPad by my sewing machine and when I needed to refer to something, I could just go right to that spot.

What you will need

  • Medium weight denim and iron on interfacing. I chose two different sizes of buttons.

Q&A with CatheeBres2013

Peg Baker asked:
Your jacket looks fabulous! I have a store-bought jacket in this style (brown denim) that I love and have worn for several years. I look forward to making this jacket to add some versatility. I've asked others who have done this project if fitting adjustments were necessary: did you have to alter the pattern? Thanks! Peg
CatheeBres2013 answered:
This is my third attempt to reply. It keeps kicking me out, so I hope you haven't got the reply more than once. I only had to alter the sleeves. I chose the size I wear in ready-to-wear. It fit great everywhere. Be careful with the sizes XS and SM. Thank goodness I had extra material, because I cut the wrong size out for the facing. I had never heard of a clapper before. I couldn't even find one locally. So I made my own from a 2x4 piece and used it with my pressing cloth. I couldn't believe what wonderful results it made. Can't wait to see yours.

Great jacket, congratulations, I think I am itching to make another version!
CatheeBres2013 answered:
Me, too. That pink one has my name all over it. :) Next time, I am going to reshape the pocket flaps to make them rounded instead of pointed.
lmmalexander asked:
It looks like it was tailored specifically for you! Well done. I love it.

Thank you so very much. It was such a fun class. I find myself using the "pinless" method all the time.
