Seven Species Challah Cover

What was your inspiration? A challah cover made as a wedding gift for two dear friends. The Hebrew is a verse from the Torah, parshat Eikev, which was both the parsha for the week they were married and also related to the groom's name. It tells of G-d bringing the Jews to a land filled with the fruit of the seven species, and then giving them the land so that they will never hunger for bread. The seven species are pictured here: grapes, barley, wheat, figs, dates, pomegranates, and olives.

You Can Make This

  • Stretch bottom weight cotton in gray
  • quilting cotton in delicately printed white
  • and colored shantung from the home decor department in green and a reversible red and gold.
