sample trial

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Practice the stitching. I sew all the time with the sewing machine but rarely by hand. It took awhile to get fairly consistent with the stitching. Try several weights and colors of threads.

You Can Make This

Oohlela made sample trial with:

  • old tees from my husband's stash. I have become obsessed with this style of embellishment.

Q&A with Oohlela

Marilee H asked:
I like the way you incorporated the beads. I have been thinking I'd make a small "something" to practice my hand stitching, which like you hasn't been something I've used much. I will probably make the cute bucket hat from the book as a practice piece. I figure that if I go to the effort to do hand work, I might as well make something useful. Of course, a tote back panel is another idea. Old tee shirts or jersey scraps from other projects seem like the best idea. I don't want to cut into my AC organic jersey for the coat as yet.
Oohlela answered:
I agree. I used scraps from old t's. I considered using the practice in a small lap quilt or other small project.
GailCreates asked:
Really cool! I love how the design pops against the black background.
Oohlela answered:
Thanks I like the color combo Now If I just had a little oare time to sew...
Moushka asked:
Love the blue/black/grey combo. Your stitching looks great. May I ask what kind of paint you used and how what you made the stencil from?
Oohlela answered:
I used some latex craft paint that I had at home(I think I got it at Walmart) and thinned it with water to the consistency I wanted. The stencil is a download from the Alabamachanin.com website
