Pina Overdress

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I am most proud of the fact that my neckline and armscyes do not gape. I also liked having a fabric covered belt. My invisible zipper application is perfect with the help of wonder tape. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't hurry. Take your time and double check before cutting! I did not fold fabric in half when I cut out the bodice I made a whole front piece and back piece so that embroidery placement was accurate.

What you will need

  • Silk organza
  • silk dupioni for belt
  • embroidered pia fabric
  • silk thread
  • wonder tape
  • mistyfuse
  • vilene bias tape
  • YKK #2 invisible zipper
  • maxant belt kit

The dress is gorgeous! The belt is kinda weird with it, ties in the back would be really pretty and make it super vintage looking.
sewnotwork answered:
Thanks. I thought about a sash and can still make one out of organza. It's a preference thing. There are retro dresses that have a belt with a full skirt ex: Butterick 6582. Hadn't ever made a matching belt before and like the sophistication of it.

I am always attracted to and study the way you use the fabric shape and design lines. The embroidery placement on this dress shifts the project from ordinary to extraordinary. I applaud your skills for the zipper, no gaps, and belt.
sewnotwork answered:
Thanks! I'm looking forward to wearing it out and getting some nice pictures.
