Pin striped Skirt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? My zipper!!! It is my first invisible zipper I have put in anything. Now, I will never look back to old styled ones. I am so impressed on how easy to install and how professional it looks. The next skirt I sew will have pockets as I am a bit forgetful and need my keys and money on my person. This is a great course, and I love being able to check things over and over again. This skirt still needs a waist band ( my pattern calls for it ) and I won't have a problem with that. I am proud that I can still learn new things. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Watch the video's , take your time and invest in an invisible zipper foot. It is worth its weight in gold.

What you will need

  • I think the material is a polyester and the lining is slippery stuff poly.

Q&A with Davesmom

Ladymax asked:
Great work.
Davesmom answered:
Thank you. Do sew skirts or clothing? Usually I have trouble fitting things on myself. So about 3 years ago, I got into quilting because you don't have to make it fit the body. But with the help of Craftsy's courses I have regained my love for sewing. It is very encouraging to make something that actually fits.
Scheri Manson asked:
Looking good Dave's Mom! It's feels so good to get a zipper in all nice and pretty. What do you have planned next? I am waiting for the pattern that comes with the pant fitting course with Sandra. So excited to finally be able to make a pair of pants that fit all my lumps and bumps. Have you joined Sandra's class?
Davesmom answered:
Hi Scheri, Have you ever put in an invisible zipper? I am so impressed. I have a dress cut for the fit. The pattern I am using is not the one that comes with the class "The Couture Dress" It is a Butterick B5719 Princess Dress with a Jacket.
DonnaDeCourcy asked:
Nice job. Pin stripes are so classy!
Davesmom answered:
Hi Donna, I am pleased with skirt so far we'll see how it wrinkles after wearing it. I do love this course. So nice to make something that actually fits. Love the invisible presser foot!! I plan on making more skirts. I would love to see the pants and jacket that go with your skirt. Please post them.
Lynne O asked:
Your skirt is really nice, you have done a great job with the lining and zip.
Davesmom answered:
Thank you! I am very pleased with the results. Skirts above my knees make me feel uncomfortable when sitting down. I like to hid my heavy thighs. Are you going to sign up for the course "Sewing Studio with Diane Rupp? The course is designed for the beginnner sewer. She takes you step by step on making a decorative pillow and skirt. Diane explains the invisible zipper extremely well. She has a book that has 10 patterns but it is extra and ships only in the USA . I like her as a teacher.
RedPointTailor asked:
You are doing great job! Congratulations!
Davesmom answered:
On this project I learned to put in an invisible zipper; which got me hooked on sewing for myself. I think!?
