My Yellow Rose Hoodie

Project Description

What are you most proud of? That I finaly used that Knit fabric. Allt the roses have waited a long time to transform into a garment. That I added a lining in the hood. I did it because at the reverse side of the fabric the roses looked as yellow and green strips and that was not good inside the hood. With the lining it came out much better I think. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Follow Meg in the Craftsy course sewing With Knits. She is teaching you how to do this Hoodie the easy way. Use some of your time to Make Stitch samples on the fabric you are going to work with. Prepare everything before you start cutting and sewing - then this Hoodie will fly out of the sewing machine, fast and ready to wear. I am wearing it now when I write this!

What you will need

  • A vintage knit with Yellow roses from my stash. Think its acrylic and wool

Q&A with Eva testar

Scheri Manson asked:
Ewa it is so perfect. Was is difficult to do in sweater knit? Did you use walking foot and zig zag stitch? I would love to try a sweater knit.
Eva testar answered:
Thank you Scheri. I have no walking foot so I did all the sewing with my regular foot. I think changing the pressure of the presser foot is one of Megs good advice . i did that and made some samples of different stretch stitches. I think the thin zig zag stitch wich I lenghten to 4.5 was the best and used that in all the seams. My knit is not a sweater knitI think you can call it a heavy jersey and it ravel easy so I had to do something with the edges. I used the three step zig zag on the edges because i found that those stitches was softest and did not stiffen up the edges. Hope you understand my english....
Lynne O asked:
Wow, that is just lovely. What beautiful fabric!
Eva testar answered:
Thank you Lynne O. I have a lot of it in yellow and some with red roses, got it from a friend and he had got it from an old fabric store when it closed. Probably 30-40 years old . I think I adjust the Pattern a litle and make one more

Lining the hood is a great idea. It looks lovely.
