My "recycled" leather handbag

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I wanted to make a bag for my daughter based on the design of a bag she loved so much - she wore it out. I kept the original panels and lining so was able to adapt most of Don's tutorial. I am happy I kept at it even though I had to patch pieces together AND rip out many many seams...this bag bears the scars of these efforts but holds up pretty well all the same. I am not so satisfied with the zipper - is difficult to access and sticks at times. Could use some advice as I have not yet closed off the bottom lining and I am prepared to go back into the piece to fix whatever I can;-)) What advice would you give someone starting this project? My best advice to others - I really put my Bernina and walking foot to work with this project...as leather is a bear to work with. A very different material from fabric. This class made all the difference for me.

What you will need

  • Navy blue 1970s A-line lambskin (?) skirt. This leather is super soft. The skirt was begging to be made into something else.
