My First Peplum Top - Vogue 8815

Project Description

What are you most proud of? That I finished this top and it's wearable, I installed an invisible zipper, made my own bias tape to finish the neckline. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Watch all of Barbara's videos and then sew along with Barbara at each step and you'll end up with a top that fits you well... oh and probably don't use a slippery fabric like I did for your first attempt... other than that just jump in and have a go... you might just surprise yourself how well your top will turn out :)

What you will need

  • I used Crepe de Chine which is probably not the easiest fabric to sew but it was what I had in my stash and I wanted to practice sewing with slippery fabric. Pattern was Vogue 8815 which came with the class.

Q&A with Chris Lucas

SparkleSpinner asked:
Looks fabulous on you! Well done!
Chris Lucas answered:
Thank you :)
Barbara Deckert asked:
Really cute! I loved your design change -- the scooped neckline looks great on you. Well done!
Chris Lucas answered:
Thank you Barbara! It was you who gave me the confidence to make the changes to the neckline after I tried on my basted garment. You've made me feel confident to try anything... and after all it's just a piece of fabric until we turn it into a garment. Thank you for such a great class and I do hope we get to experience another one with you as I'll be signing up for sure!
Aromagal1 asked:
Beauty! Looks like you had a lot of fun modeling. I can't wait for my patternt to arrive! I want to be pretty in a top like that too :)
Chris Lucas answered:
Thank you and yes I did have a lot of fun thanks to my hubby (Grant). I was like you couldn't wait for my pattern to arrive and the day it did I jumped right into the class. I did watch all of Barbara's videos while I waited for my pattern and then sewed along with Barbara. It was like having Barbara with me holding my hand all the way. If you do it the way I did I'm sure you will have a top that looks and feels great too :)
Ada H asked:
Chris what a great look and it fits.
Chris Lucas answered:
Yeh!! That's the best part of all is that it fits and I finished it. I'm looking forward to making another one as well.
Kezurina asked:
It's really lovely material Chris and the end result looks great.
Chris Lucas answered:
Thanks for the feedback as it's always nice to get positive feedback from our fellow sewers like you Kezurina :)
