My Couture dress

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I think this course will make me take my time with fitting and sewing, so I hope I will have an amazing dress to be proud of at the end of it. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Be prepared to take tons of notes when you're watching. This course is really thorough and there is a lot to learn. But I'm sure the end result will be so worth it. I have learnt so much already.

What you will need

  • My fashion fabric is a green/blue linen. The warp threads are alternate blue and black
  • and the weft threads are green which gives the fabric an iridescent quality
  • it is hard to photograph and almost changes colour in different lights. I'm using white china silk lining and silk organza as underlining.

Q&A with helensewstylish

Jackie G. asked:
I am also in this class. Can you tell me about any fitting issues you are having with this pattern? If you prefer a private message, I think that there is a way to do that inside our course where the mailbox is. Thanks so much. I'll be watching for your photos.
helensewstylish answered:
I didn't know about private messaging but i have found it now. I will be sure to post on Craftsy and also on my blog http://sewstylish.blogspot.com about any fitting issues. I am thread tracing my muslin now so i hope to start assembling it and fitting soon.
ramonamp asked:
totally agree with you on making notes. I wish there was a better way of following each others comments during the class. I've tried to find a couple and have had to remember what section I was in to find the right comments. I will start making notes of conversations I am finding as a way to bookmark those. Good luck with your project.
helensewstylish answered:
I know what you mean. I like the format on Craftsy but sometimes i find the class discussions a little confusing. It sounds like a good idea to make notes of any useful conversations you read too!
RebeccaSchamess asked:
Yup, I'm with you guys on the commenting frustration! Should we maybe start an email group, or, or...a pinterest group where we can all pin photos and notes?? Whatcha think? I just finished my muslin, converting a 12 to a 20 (stupid me -- I thought dress size=pattern size) and on to the fashion fabric, at last!
helensewstylish answered:
I'm happy for people to contact me via my blog or email. I'm still finding my way around Pinterest. I am still on my muslin, and waiting for my underlining fabric to arrive. I got the fitting book that Susan recommended so I have a lot of reading to do!
