Miniature aprons

Project Description

What are you most proud of? The detail work. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Prepare to be VERY patient. Also, I did not use regular bias tape called for in the pattern. I customized my versions by cutting my own bias tape from colored batiste (much lighter than purchased bias tape). These are really cute, and are nice for package decorations on gifts, Christmas tree ornaments, and general kitchen decor (cute hung from a 'clothesline with little tiny clothespins as a wall decoration.).

What you will need

  • Cotton calicos

nellie diaz asked:
thank you ,Dottyeb17752 just got my pattern yesterday oh so cute hope my comes out as good as yours Dottyeb
dottyeb answered:
As stated above in the information, I did NOT use purchased bias tape as the pattern suggested, because it was too bulky for the size of the aprons. I cut my own from several coordinating colors of batiste. One could also use lawn or voille. The aprons are what my mother used to say "patience work" because they are smaller than what one is accustomed to sewing normally. Also, I used serger thread, because it is finer than regular thread and doesn't add so much bulk on such a small item. Good luck!!!
Kcrandall62 asked:
Along with sewing I am restoring and decorating a dollhouse. Are these aprons small enough to use in the dollhouse? It's a 1 inch scale.
dottyeb answered:
These aprons are definitely NOT 1:12 scale. I too am a miniaturist, and am in the process of building what is to be my 'last' dollhouse. It is the 'Thornhill' by RealGoodToys. You can follow my progress at
Mee asked:
How do I get the patterns for the tiny aprons, please?
dottyeb answered:
Simplicity 2748.....also Simplicity 1957 and 0371. If they are out of print in the Simplicity pattern book, they are available through several sellers on the internet. They make darling ornaments on a tree, package decorations, etc. Fun to make.....
