Long Fitted Dress in Blue

Project Description

What are you most proud of? The color blue I managed to get! This is the first time I dyed cotton, I have done a lot of dying before but it was using protein fibers (wool, alpaca, silk, etc) What advice would you give someone starting this project? swatch swatch swatch and allow plenty of time to complete

What you will need

  • This is the Long Fitted Dress from Alabama Chanin's book "Alabama Studio Sewing + Design". I hand dyed cotton jersey and used fabric paint for the stencil
  • button craft thread for the applique

Q&A with trewlytwisted

alicewtyl1006980 asked:
Really beautifully done. I don't suppose you would be willing to tell us what colors the two blues are?
trewlytwisted answered:
I would love to tell you but I dyed them last summer and didnt keep records. I believe I used Navy Blue and maybe Royal Blue but remember I did overdye them because the color didn't seem to pop as much as I wanted.
I am quilter asked:
beautiful, I bet you get compliments constantly!
trewlytwisted answered:
thank you! Not very many people have seen it, and they dont know what it is yet, so we shall see when I finish and I wear it. I will take pics of course :)
workshop mice asked:
Well.....I love the colors and the work is looking righteous.xx
trewlytwisted answered:
thanks :) I can't wait to finish! Hoping to finish this month, almost done with the first panel.
JanetElise asked:
Brilliant colors and beautiful work!
trewlytwisted answered:
thanks! I just finished the first panel and will put up a couple new pics up soon!
amyrt asked:
Did you use any textile paint, so you know exactly where the appliques go? It's really beautiful, by the way!
trewlytwisted answered:
Thank you :) I did use textile paint, it doesnt show up in the pics well. Its a blue green thats the same value as the lighter blue so there is just a hint of color. I really like how it looks but I do need to use a white chalk pencil to mark around the shapes unless I am working in really good light!
