linen shirt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Linen is not the easiest of fabrics to work with, or at least this fabric wasn't. It has a tendency to shift out of shape when sewing. But in saying that I love how the sleeves turned out. I'm not necessarily proud of this - I was so careful about marking the right side of the fabric with a pin, per Pam's instructions. But I ended up sewing the front pieces on inside out. Worse yet I did not notice it until I had sewed the collar unit on. So, Pam, I am wearing my shirt inside out. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't try for perfection. It will cause you nothing but grief. And if you can always buy at least a 1/2 yard more of fabric than you need.

What you will need

  • 100% white linen

Q&A with Calumn

Pam Howard asked:
Hi, I love it! What a beautiful white linen shirt-:)) you should be very proud of it, and although you think that you've made a mistake on the front band, I see it as a design element. It looks like a separate front band that's been edge stitched. It looks like it was supposed to be that way. Sometimes the things we call an ''Oops'' turn out to be a good idea! I really like the shorter sleeve with the tower placket. Thanks for posting it! Pam
