Katelyn's 1950's summer dress & bonnet

Project Description

What was your source for this sewing project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo 2392 Babies' 1950's Vintage Layette Link to website or photo www.simplicity.com/p-4994-babies-1950s-vintage-layette.aspx What are you most proud of? I hadn't had lessons on the machine yet, but was able to play around with it and re-size, group and tilt the flowers, as well as fake my way thru stabilizers. And it turned out just like I envisioned! (except for the size) What advice would you give someone starting this project? It's trickier than it looks. Save yourself a lot of frustrations and just follow the excellent instructions, don't go on automatic, even if you have made a million dresses before! Also, check the measurements of the pattern, don't go by size. I was hoping this would be the perfect summer dress for my February granddaughter, but it's going to be way big this summer. This size says 6-9 months, but could easily fit her 2 yr old brother!

What you will need

  • 1/8" pink & white gingham in a cotton/poly blend
  • and a white dotted ? from my stash--leftover from a dress I made her mother when she was 4! The embroidery pattern came as a built in on my Janome 1100SE
