Ronza25 asked:
This looks terrific! Fits your Mom really well and I love the color!
pilotshre1254545 answered:
Thank you. The Alabama Chanin fabric is super soft and cozy too.
kmk asked:
Wow, you did it! The first completed jacket. Did you find it difficult to construct the jacket or follow the pattern directions?
pilotshre1254545 answered:
The directions are pretty easy to follow. In the last step, it says to topstitch around the collar but I did not do t shoulder and nehat. Also, All the seam allowances are 5/8" and I felled the seams 1/8" away from the stitching line (like they do in the Alabama Chanin designs) but then you have extra seam allowance so I trimmed way the excess. The directions do it differently but I did it the way Natalie does it in her books. Also, the reinforced stitching at the neck is super important (where you have to clip to the stitching) as that is where you turn the collar and facing over. Oh and make sure you do a good job marking all your notches/dots/etc! I used double faced wax tracing paper the first time around. One last thing: When I stitched seams, I used tailors chalk and marked the seam lines w/a ruler like Natalie demonstrated in the class - it makes it much easier!
mhf3 asked:
can you tell me what size you made for her? thanks for posting. this is beautiful!
pilotshre1254545 answered:
Its size XS (which Vogue says is a 4-6) - my mom is pretty tiny. She's about 5'3
faux nom asked:
It looks great! Was your mom there for multiple fittings, because it fits perfectly in that back view? Congrats on being first to finish!
pilotshre1254545 answered:
thanks so much. No multiple fittings since I live in Los Angeles and she lives in San Francisco but I had her measurements and I have shopped for her before. I did forget to measure her sleeve length though so I will have to adjust the sleeves.
amyrt asked:
It looks like it fits nicely around her shoulders; the most important place for a jacket. Nice job! How did you decide what size to use, if you don't mind my asking?
pilotshre1254545 answered:
Thank you! I had my mom's measurements and I have shopped for her before so I had a pretty good idea of the size. I did forget to measure her sleeve length though so I will have to go back and adjust on my next visit as they are a touch too long
