Iconic Tweed Remake from Mother's Jacket

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I made something truly beautiful out of my mother's jacket, which had great sentimental value. I thought of her while I made it, and wearing it feels a little bit like a hug. What advice would you give someone starting this project? The handwork on this jacket takes a lot of time, but it is not difficult. As a beginning sewer, with less than one year of experience, I would say don't be intimidated by the idea of making a couture jacket, as this class makes it easy.

What you will need

  • I took apart and recut a pink tweed jacket that belonged to my mother
  • who died last year
  • and used pink silk dupioni for the lining. I crocheted a chain of chenille yarn for the trim
  • and placed it on top of navy grosgrain ribbon. I used vintage buttons on the pockets.
