Project

Hope's wedding dress

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I'm very proud that my granddaughter and I worked together to create this gown and matching cape. She helped me pick out embroidery designs and helped put them together to work for the dress. The back of the train is embroidered with a flowered heart with two white doves carrying a single ribbon. We also sewed pearls all the way around the hem of the white satin and along the darker top band. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Give yourself a lot of time. It took me a year as I worked by spurts and inspiration. Turn your mistakes into opportunities. (The embroidered and fur-lined cape was originally intended to be long flowing sleeves. We didn't like the sleeves but didn't want to throw them away. Voila!! We have a cape.)

What you will need

  • Peau de soie satin
  • embroidery and pearls; fake fur for the reversible cape
