Fleece Hoodie

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I liked that I tried the reverse applique even if I'm not thrilled with the results. I learned something! It would be fun to use a large peace sign reverse applique for a hoodie for a teen or tween. What advice would you give someone starting this project? I'm not sure that fleece is the best material for reverse applique. It would probably have worked better had I used a simpler pattern. The rose template is very detailed, and that doesn't come out well in the fleece. I've saved the template though, and I'll use it on some other projects.

What you will need

  • Polyester fleece and cotton jersey

Q&A with jdzurenko

Scheri Manson asked:
Please tell the way you applied the florals on your great hoodie. Details?
jdzurenko answered:
Well, the technique was recently brought back into vogue by Natalie Chanin (http://alabamachanin.com/). I basically spray painted a rose via a template onto a piece of pink jersey (old t-shirt). I then hand stitched the pink jersey to the wrong side of the hoodie by tracing the template. Finally I cut the fleece from inside the stitched tracing from the right side of the fleece. Does that make sense?

I LOVE your applique hoodie! Thank you so much for sharing! I have been wanting to figure out applique with knits. My efforts have been unsuccessful so far.
jdzurenko answered:
Practice on a t-shirt. In fact after doing this on the fleece, I think that I'd recommend not doing it with a stencil as detailed as this one (with fleece)..
