Q&A with grandmacurlyj

oldsewist asked:
Only one word came to mind as I viewed your photos-----MAGNIFICENT!!!! And the bride looks so happy, I'm sure her fabulous dress added to her joy. Great job. A couple questions: Did you have to sew the dress to the lining in rows to get the poufs, or was it done in areas and attached to the lining or interlining? How much longer than the finished length did you have to cut the skirt? Where did you find the beautiful material you used?
grandmacurlyj answered:
Thanks for your kind words. I made hand tacks at various points to attach the silk to the interlining so that the regular lining hung free. I believe I added a full yard to the cut length to allow for the poufs and then re-cut the hemline to be even. I purchased an entire bolt of dupioni silk at a fabric store in Houston, Texas while on vacation. It was a store that carried odds and ends of bolts. The dress was made as big as the 18 yard bolt would allow:)
