Faux Pas Bomber Jacket

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I wear this jacket a lot! What advice would you give someone starting this project? If your tall check the arm length I added 1 inch.

What you will need

  • It is so warm this winter in CA I can't wear my leather jacket. This is a poly faux pas that is really light weight.

Q&A with Janet Berry

Snazzy SewNsew asked:
That is just gorgeous - the detail, the stressed look of the faux leather, the double stitching, the lot! Well done. Which patter did you use? (sorry, i can't see it anywhere in your write up)
Janet Berry answered:
It's the Express Jacket pattern that comes with Janet Prey's Crafty class "Sew Better, Sew Faster". Great class!
emmalei asked:
Hi! The only thing preventing me from going for this class is the collar in the pattern. Yours looks a lot more "up to date." Was it complicated alter it? Is it something she explains how to do or is it something you just knew how to do.
Janet Berry answered:
I thought the leather jacket needed a more traditional collar so I made the change. It was very easy just extend the collar lines to a point and make it smaller by taking off a 1/2 on the seam that attaches to the collar band. Janet does not tell how to change the collar but she shows you every other step of the jacket, I liked the class a lot.
Sandra Dirks asked:
Wow, this is so cute! I like to sew mine with fake leather, too. But I never tried out sewing with that leather. I think I have to collect some information. What about ironing? I think that this is not possible. How did you manage it?
Janet Berry answered:
It is a good choice for this class because Janet likes to sew without pins and this material is hard to get a pin through so you can't even cheat!. It irons without any problems. Don"t get anything to thick and I think you will do great.
Daniwillis asked:
I agree with most of the comments posted. I was undecided on this course until I saw your project. I Love the fabric and how you've made it look so up to date. Can you please tell me where you purchased fabric was it online by any chance? I'm looking online and haven't had much luck finding anything that looks distressed. I'm searching for Faux Soft Skin Leather, is this correct? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Janet Berry answered:
I got this fabric at Hancocks. I see they have something on line like it but i think it's decorator material and much thicker. I see that Fabric Mart has a lot of fake suede that would be a good possibility.
