Project Description

What was your source for this sewing project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Vogue 7733 Link to website or photo voguepatterns.mccall.com/v7733-products-1815.php?page_id=953&search_control=display&list=search What are you most proud of? overlaying the front panels of velvet with the stretch lace. The lace would not stay in place, so I "pin basted" the entire surface to eliminate shifting while I basted them together in the seam allowances. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Pre-measure all the pieces to make sure the width and height is appropriate for the wearer. This is a very fitted boned bodice and needs to fit perfectly. There are eight seams, since it has princess seams, and only so much can be adjusted with the lacing.

What you will need

  • black velvet
  • black stretch lace
  • featherweight boning
  • black interfacing
  • organza ribbon
  • grommets

Q&A with artistikim

waterr asked:
Gorgeous! Do you think it would stand up without boning? I've never worked with it.
artistikim answered:
Thank you! I'm not sure if it would retain its structure without the boning. I would think you would have to choose a fairly rigid fabric like a heavy brocade (like for upholstery) to make it work (think about how pretty that could be!). This is my third project with boning. It is really not too difficult to work with, especially if you take your time and don't rush.
