Project Description

What was your source for this sewing project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Simplicity 2588 Link to website or photo www.simplicity.com/Search.aspx?SearchTerm=2588 What are you most proud of? I put in a hand picked zipper, and everytime I do this it gets a little bit easier. What advice would you give someone starting this project? There are many options for this dress, be it sleeves, skirt style or collar options.. Be sure you are following the directions for the correct one, I followed directions for the wrong one and ended up with a dress that wasn't the one I set out to sew!!!!! ugh!

What you will need

  • I used the Simplicity Pattern 2588
  • a combination of sheer georgette and cotton fabric underneath.

I love your dress and it is so perfect for Easter, it appears you have done a beautiful job of the dress and should be so proud.

Thanks- I guess I am a little proud! Have a great day!
Simple Sewer asked:
You did a nice job on the dress. Does it come in a petite size? My sister has told me before that I need to buy Petite patterns because sometimes they are harder to adjust for fit if I buy a Misses size. I'm only 4'8" so I usually have to hem a lot anyway. I'm also only a beginner sewer and it's been awhile since I put a zipper in. I have only made one jumper on my own and had to adjust the size down after I had sewn the dress. I always asked my mom or older sister for help when sewing but would love to get back to sewing some too. Thanks! Valerie
Swellsewing answered:
Hi Valerie! i don't think it comes in a petite. But I am wondering if you have ever tried to "slash" a regular sized garment ? Most patterns have special places on them like the bodice where you would "slash" (cut) the pattern and then reduce the length of the pattern piece and tape it back together. You could do that for the bodice of this dress and also for the skirt of the dress, instead of just hemming the heck out of if. For example, the skirt portion of the dress would have you slash it about halfway between the waist and hem line in the pattern piece and then when you are finished, you would just hem like normal. Does this help any?
